Online Behavior of Self Storage Renters

Online Behavior of Self Storage Renters

Don’t lose potential customers with a crappy website!

Consumers aren’t doing what we think they are online. Join me during the SSA Spring Conference, on Thursday, March 15 from 3:30-4:30 pm to see actual screen-recorded video footage of the “Online Behavior of Self Storage Renters.”

The videos will show how real people try to navigate, research and book storage on various sites. You’ll learn what they like, what they hate, and simple website tweaks that will greatly improve your conversion rate.

Some important factors to keep in mind when updating your website include:

Global Navigation

This informs customers what is available on the site. It’s important that both your desktop and mobile site have clear labels and large tap targets for ease of use.

Mobile Optimization

To keep people engaged, mobile sites must be fast and relevant. Over half of all mobile site visits are abandoned if pages take longer than three seconds to load according to Google. On SpareFoot.com, mobile traffic currently exceeds desktop traffic by almost 10 percent.

Location, Location, Location!

Our surveys show that the number one feature that’s important to self-storage consumers is location. Therefore, you want to ensure that the map experience is easy for the customer to use. In general, go for a clean page layout and avoid the clutter.

Visuals

Attractive photography that showcases your property in the best possible light is another way to engage with potential customers. Be sure to showcase all amenities, and particularly the security features of your facility.

Getting the Booking

Display clear calls-to-action. Take opportunities to educate consumers about unit sizes and amenities. Think about the questions and information they will need to feel confident booking with your facility. All inventory should be displayed on the site with pricing included, and inventory must be kept up-to-date to show what’s actually available.

If you’re looking for ways to increase your conversion rate and keep your website up-to-date, this session will give you practical steps to improve your reservation performance online.
