Research & Data

The SSA takes pride in providing members with fresh research and data. We continue to outpace the industry in terms of generating new research and cutting edge information programs. SSA data studies are revolutionizing the way owner-operators and managers look at this industry:

  • SSA members are always in the know on current industry measures with a quarterly data newsletter called the Self Storage Industry Facts and Trends report.
  • Each year, the SSA releases its Financial and Operational Characteristics Study publication which allows owners, investors, investment bankers and brokers to perform their due diligence in order to make sound investment, objective decisions, research analysis and projections. The data compiled is used to supply current status, occupancy trends, revenue characteristics and board rates.
  • SSA collects data online with it's Monthly Data Surveys. The results collected from member and non-member facility owner-operators are published in the "Data Depot" of the Globe Magazine.
  • The 2007 Self Storage Demand Study - The primary purpose of this study is to tell us who uses self storage, how and why and, most importantly, to project future demand. It will do so by helping us to understand the current incidence of usage and how it is tied to area demographic characteristics. Importantly, it will provide us with another view on what drives demand, with insights as to how customers use self storage. This study also includes a chapter on the Canadian self storage market (compiled by the ISSA – International Self Storage Association®). 233 pages.
